Do I need a Doctor’s referral to see a Physiotherapist?

Andrea is state registered provider and can treat patients without a medical referral. If you are able to claim a rebate for physiotherapy services on a private health fund, this is possible without a Doctor’s referral.
A medical referral is only required if:

  • You have been injured at work and your case is being managed by WorkCover
  • Your treatment is covered by Veterans’ Affairs
  • You are claiming your treatment expenses through a 3rd party claim; or
  • You are wanting to claim a rebate through Medicare (EPC)

Is Physio covered by a Health Fund?

If you have private health cover and subscribe to the “extras” cover you should be eligible to claim part of your treatment fee. Most funds are online with HICAPS which allows you to claim your health fund rebate at our clinic, leaving only the gap to pay. You will need to bring your health fund card with you.

Can I claim a rebate from Medicare?

Physiotherapy is generally not covered by Medicare. However, people with chronic conditions and complex care needs who are being managed through an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) multidisciplinary care plan may be eligible for up to 5 allied health services per year on referral from their GP. You will need to bring the approved EPC form with you.

The Medicare rebate of $50.95 can be claimed electronically at time of payment.
